As members of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, we are a practice of board certified ophthalmologists sub-specializing in plastic surgery of the eyelids, lacrimal system, and orbit. We have served the greater Philadelphia and Delaware Valley areas for many years, working mainly out of Wills Eye Hospital and Lankenau Hospital, as well as within surrounding sites including Marlton and Galloway NJ.

  • Jacqueline R. Carrasco

    M.D., F.A.C.S

    Dr. Jacqueline Carrasco earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology cum laude from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, and her medical doctorate from the University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, Florida. She was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society while in medical school. Dr. Carrasco continued her training with an internship at the Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was named Chief Resident in Ophthalmology. Following her residency, she completed a two-year Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery Fellowship, also at the Wills Eye Hospital and Lankenau Medical Center. Board-certified in Ophthalmology, Dr. Carrasco specializes in eyelid reconstruction, thyroid eyelid/orbital surgery and cosmetic eyelid surgery. She also serves as Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Thomas Jefferson University and Associate Surgeon at the Wills Eye Hospital. Dr. Carrasco is also an attending surgeon at Lankenau Medical Center. She is consistently named Main Line Top Doctor in her specialty. Active in a variety of professional organizations, Dr. Carrasco is a Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a diplomate of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She is also a member of the Wills Eye Hospital Society, American Medical Association and Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Carrasco chairs the Wills Eye Hospital Cosmetic Conference.   • Robert B. Penne

    M.D., F.A.C.S

    Dr. Robert Penne earned his Bachelor of University Studies degree from North Dakota State University, graduating first in his class, and his medical degree from the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis. He continued his training with an internship at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, and an Ophthalmology residency at the Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia. After his residency, he completed two fellowships at Wills Eye Hospital, the first in Neuro-Orbital Disease and the second in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Board certified in Ophthalmology, Dr. Penne is currently Co-Director of the Ocular Cicatricial Pemphigoid Clinic and Director of the Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Department at Wills Eye Institute. He has also maintained a faculty appointment as Associate Professor at Thomas Jefferson University since 2007. Dr. Penne holds membership in numerous national and local professional societies. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, Philadelphia Academy of Ophthalmology, Inter-County Ophthalmic Society and Greater Philadelphia Ophthalmic Society. Dr. Penne is the author of numerous scientific papers and book chapters, and has served as associate editor of the Yearbook of Ophthalmology since 1998. He currently holds licenses in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

  • Michael P. Rabinowitz

    M.D.

    Dr. Michael Rabinowitz earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he graduated with high distinction and university honors. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He continued his training with a Transitional Medicine Internship at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, followed by his residency at Wills Eye Hospital, also in Philadelphia. Dr. Rabinowitz then completed an Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery Fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital. Board certified in ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery, Dr. Rabinowitz specializes in a wide range of plastic and orbital surgeries including blepharoplasty surgery, ptosis surgery, entropion/ectropion surgery, thyroid orbitopathy surgery, lacrimal/tearing surgery, reconstructive surgery, and cosmetic eyelid surgery among others. He works closely with the ocular oncologists at Wills Eye Hospital and performs complex eyelid reconstructions for them; in the same operation they remove eyelid and orbital cancers and, once the margins are cleared by Wills’ attending pathologists, Dr. Rabinowitz reconstructs the resulting defects using combinations of flaps and grafts. He also works closely with the endoscopic skull base experts at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to provide combined and targeted approaches to lacrimal and orbital surgeries. Actively involved in several professional organizations, he is a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Philadelphia Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Rabinowitz is currently affiliated with Lakenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania and Wills Eye Hospital/Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He attends in clinic in Marlton, New Jersey, and holds New Jersey and Pennsylvania medical licenses. In the academic arena, Dr. Rabinowitz has served as a featured lecturer for many Wills Eye Hospital eyelid, lacrimal, cosmetic, and orbital lecture series and review courses. He is a dissection assistant and featured lecturer for the Wills Eye Hospital annual Orbital Dissection Course. Dr. Rabinowitz edited the 6th edition of the best-selling Wills Eye Manual, as well as many other book chapters within various ophthalmology and oculoplastic texts. Dr. Rabinowitz’s dedication to his profession is further exemplified by his multitude of published peer-reviewed journal articles, academic presentations, and abstracts, as well as his continued teaching of the Wills Eye Hospital and Lankenau Hospital residents.

  • Mary A. Stefanyszyn

    M.D., F.A.C.S.

    Dr. Mary Stefanyszyn earned her Bachelor’s degree in Natural Science from University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, and her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. She continued her training with an internship at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, followed by both residency and an ASOPRS oculoplastic and orbital surgery fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital. She then did a separate ophthalmic pathology fellowship at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, DC. She then went on to a fellowship in Orbital and Lacrimal Surgery, Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, England. Additionally, she is affiliated with Lankenau Hospital, Pennsylvania Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and Wills Eye Institute. Active in various professional organizations, Dr. Mary Stefanyszyn has been recognized throughout her career with many honors and awards, including Fellow American College of Surgeons, American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, American Board of Ophthalmology, Fellow American Academy of Ophthalmology, Diplomate of National Board of Medical Examiners.   • Alison Watson

    M.D.

    Raised in the Philadelphia area, Dr. Watson attended Lafayette College graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She went on to graduate first in her class from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA and was awarded a scholarship for academic merit and commitment to community service. She was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society, and was recognized with a memorial prize for outstanding aptitude and excellence in ophthalmology. Dr. Watson completed her internship at Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, PA and her residency at Wills Eye Hospital. During her time at Wills Eye she was elected to The National Gold Humanism Honor Society, and was awarded the Jefferson Volunteer Faculty Association Resident Award, recognizing one resident university-wide who displays outstanding clinical excellence along with empathy, and professionalism

  • Joseph C. Flanagan

    M.D.

    Joseph C. Flanagan graduated Magna Cum Laude from LaSalle University earning a B.A. in biology. He received his M. D. degree from the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, was inducted into the honor society Alpha Omega Alpha and later received the Jefferson Alumni Achievement Award. He was a resident in ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital and a Heed Fellow in ophthalmic plastic surgery and orbital surgery at the Manhattan Eye,Ear and Throat Hospital in New York. He practiced ophthalmic plastic and orbital surgery at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and the Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, Pa. He was director of the Department of Opthalmic Plastic Surgery at the Wills Eye Hospital for over 25 years and president of the medical staff. He was chairman of the division of ophthalmology at the Lankenau Hospital for over 20 years. He is a Professor of Ophthalmology at The Jefferson Medical College and is an attending surgeon at The Wills Eye Hospital. Doctor Joseph Flanagan is a member of many national and international societies including, The American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Ophthalmology Society, American Society of Opthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery ( president) , Orbit Society (founding member), Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology and the Wills Eye Hospital Society (president and recipient of the society’s silver tray award). Dr Flanagan has been recognized throughout his career with many honors and awards as well as being the author of many papers in refereed medical and surgical journals and text books on Orbital and Opthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has lectured locally,nationally and internationally.
